As I said in my review (way back in 2011), the various improvements in its magnetic engine moved the presentation of the Statement away “from the cool, crystalline, and hyper-analytical (the very quintessence of what used to be known as ‘the German sound’) to a warmer, more natural timbre.” Indeed, the original Goldfinger Statement and Statement V2 were closer in balance to a Koetsu than to a typical Clearaudio Insider, accomplishing the audio equivalent of a “180” by trebling the number of magnets in its patented “Ring” configuration from four to 12 and thinning down the 24-karat gold wire in its coils by 30%. T he original Goldfinger Statement represented a veritable sea change in the sound of top-of-the-line Clearaudio moving-coil cartridges.
